voestival - annual cultural highlight!
The voestival first took place in 1998 and has established itself into an annual cultural highlight. The trademark of the event: extraordinary internationally renowned actors from across the world live on stage with the Bruckner Orchestra Linz. Held in an unusual location: a production hall at the voestalpine plant in Linz. For the past few years the program has been held on two consecutive days - first for 4,000 invited international VIPs and guests and on the following day in an abbreviated form for children.
Previous voestivals since 1998: "An evening with Sir Peter Ustinov", "A Tribute to Andrew Lloyd Webber", "Ennio Morricone in Concert", "Circus meets Classics – A Midsummer Night’s Dream", "Adiemus live! Music & Dance" with Karl Jenkins, "Canto General" with Mikis Theodorakis, „The Best of Lalo Schifrin“  etc.
voestival 08 – The Blue Planet Live!
For the 11th voestival, the heavy plate hall at the voestalpine plant was transformed into the “Blue Planet”. With the multimedia presentation of “The Blue Planet Live!” the almost 4,000 visitors were treated to not just an Austrian, but a world premiere:

Composer George Fenton presented a rendition of his work that was especially arranged for this event – the film music for the award-winning BBC documentary. The five-time Oscar-nominated composer took the conductor’s stand himself and led the Bruckner Orchester and the Konzertvereinigung Linzer Theaterchor. Dieter Moor accompanied the audience as a narrator through the breathtaking images.

The BBC-documentary was shown on an enormous stage composed of three huge screens. Up close and dramatic, the fascination as well as the finiteness of the oceans and the limits of their capabilities were conveyed.

An additional highlight was the performance by the six-time Grammy-winner José Feliciano with his band, whose worldwide hits were met with frenetic applause by the audience.
There were standing ovations for the grand finale and the world premiere:
José Feliciano and the Bruckner Orchester interpreted Charles Trenet’s world-famous “La Mer”!

A unique experience that delighted the audience – but was also thought-provoking!
voestival 07 – “Three Cities – One Night – One Woman”
On June 21st, 2007, the voestival celebrated a brilliant 10th anniversary in Linz:
In the unique atmosphere of the industrial hall, world star Ute Lemper led around 4,000 visitors on a fast-paced musical journey through time and space: from New York via Paris to Berlin, from musical to chanson, from John Kander via Edith Piaf to Kurt Weill, Bert Brecht and George Gershwin.

A special dance company, the “voestival ballet” was founded for this evening, consisting of international soloists.

Additional highlight:
For the first time, the original Moulin Rouge ensemble - whose dancers only give guest performances outside France on very rare occasions - could be seen in Austria! In fantastic costumes they performed the legendary “French Can-Can”, that made the Moulin Rouge famous all over the world.

The musical accompaniment for the entire program was provided by the Bruckner Orchestra Linz under the direction of its lead conductor Dennis Russell Davies.

The stage scenery was inspired by a glamorous revue theatre, such as it could have been found in Berlin, Paris and New York in the 1920s and 1930s.
